ORDER DVDS

The first two DVDs in Ranya's "New York Nights" performance video series are now available for purchase.
Layali Lafayette
and Live at the Hookah Lounge! each feature Ranya's solo dance performances with some of New York City's finest Middle Eastern musicians. Recorded in late 2005 and spring 2006, with videography and editing by Amy Staub, and cover art design by Leela Corman.

Layali Lafayette includes 5 mini-shows of about 8 to 15 minutes each, on the beautiful polished wood dance floor of the Lafayette Grill supper club. The dances are more "stage style", and Ranya's movements and interaction with the musicians can be seen very clearly. Dances include Egyptian Oriental, Egyptian folklore (double cane and shama'dan--candelabra), Middle Eastern nightclub style, and Middle Eastern jazz fusion, all with fine acoustic musical ensembles. Ranya appears in 5 different costumes.

Live at the Hookah Lounge! has a rougher, more freewheeling feeling, as the 2 full-length shows have been filmed in some of New York's popular hookah clubs, where patrons can enjoy drinks and smoke traditional water pipes. There is more interaction between Ranya and patrons, as well as casual rapport with the musicians. Ranya's movements are still very easy to see, thanks to fine editing work by Amy Staub. A fine acoustic Turkish-Balkan ensemble and a strong Arabic keyboard band offer contrast between the two shows. Highlights include two different candle-tray balancing acts, and an almost 7-minute long drum solo with the fabulous Seido Salifoski. Ranya appears in 2 different costumes in this video.

DVDs are US$25 for one title or $45 for both. Free shipping within the US, or add $5 for international orders.
